Back in the Theater Again.

It is day one in the theater for Miami City Ballet as we rehearse all day today in preparation for opening night tomorrow.  I think I can speak for everyone when I say how happy we all are to have this change of scenery and change of pace.  We have been rehearsing in the studios for 2 and a half months now, so we are ready to go!

Currently it is our lunch break.  Yes, it is 5:00 p.m., which is too late to consider this meal time lunch, but too early to call it dinner, so we generally refer to this theater meal schedule as “dunch”.   We take this time to refuel, enjoy a physical therapy spot, stretch, and rest.

This morning we worked through all the ballets with the sets and costumes, but now, the orchestra is here (in fact I can already hear them warming up) and there will be photographers out front.  So though this evening is considered a rehearsal, it is really more like a show, as we will be in full hair and make-up.

Here are some shots I took from this afternoon’s rehearsal:

Looking out into the house from the stage.
Working on some steps after class this morning.

Theme and Variations set.

The light in the house above the audience. (One of my
favorite things about this theater)

Jeanette Delgado and Renato Penteado rehearsing Theme.

Ending of Theme.

Waiting for the Orchestra to fill the pit! Can’t wait!

Laying down the canvas floor for Bugaku.

Continuing to put up the set of Bugaku.

The curtain rises on Bugaku.

Finale, Corps and Principles.

Getting notes on stage.
