Celebrate One Year of Tendus.

Posted by on 06.03.2011

As you may have read, June 29th is TENDUS first birthday!  So let’s celebrate!  For this exciting occasion, I wanted to find a way to get my readers involved.  Last Wednesday I posted about my experience with Miami City Ballet School.  A ballet education can be life changing for any young person, whether they pursue a professional career or not.  Just as important is a young person’s access to the performing arts.

Each year, Miami City Ballet School, the Company, and Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts put on an annual free performance for young people, appropriately named “Ballet for Young People.”  The “Ballet for Young People” of the 2010-2011 season took place in February.  I had the opportunity to sit in the audience after I danced with the company in the first half of the performance.  I was overwhelmed with the turnout.  Young children and their parents filled the blue velvet seats in the house; there was not an empty seat in sight!  Some of the children were viewing the action from booster seats and others just stood in anticipation of what was to come.  They laughed, cheered, and danced in the aisles.  To me, watching their response was just as wonderful as the performance itself.

But who were these creatures on stage, sending these happy children into a tizzy? Miami City Ballet Students, in all of their glory.

So in honor of TENDUS’ birthday, I am inviting you to be a part of this magical performance.  By following the directions shown, you can help fund Miami City Ballet School’s next “Ballet For Young People” performance under the name “Tendus Under A Palm Tree.”  Because this is event is always free for audience members, funding is essential.  Please don’t miss this opportunity to introduce young people to the world of dance.  All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

To show my personal appreciation of your generosity, if you donate in the name of “Tendus Under A Palm Tree,” you will be entered in a drawing to win a pair of pointe shoes signed by the women of Miami City Ballet and a copy of a program from MCB’s tour to Paris.  The last day to qualify for the drawing will be June 29th, but donations will continue to be collected past that date.
