(126) Rebecca & Michael: What to do if you didn’t get your contract renewed

Posted by on 02.11.2019

It’s just Rebecca and Michael this week.  It’s that time of year when company contracts are going out, which means that dancers across the country may not be getting their contracts renewed for the 2019-2020 season.  We put together a handful of bullet points to help dancers navigate this tough time and discuss what to do next.  We turn this challenging experience into something positive, this week on Conversations on Dance.

This episode is sponsored by Yumiko and The Kennedy Center.

  1. I followed Carling as a student, and I know why she was laid off. MCB was struggling financially, and the board advised Edward that he had to lay off a number of Dancers, which he didn’t want to do. But this was the year of the great recession, so to keep MCB, his child alive, he had to make the sacrifice. Carling, whom I adored, was reluctantly let go A few weeks later, in New York , she Audi tioned for the company in Denmark. The rest is history. May she have a long, rewarding career and find happiness in the rich cultural scene that thrives in Europe, where.the Arts are supported by the government, the aristocracy, and the people. Love to both of you. RIchard
